Through this signature, the Abidjan Convention implements the COP decision 12/6 on Environmental standards for oil and gas exploration and exploitation activities off the coasts of the Contracting Parties.
The project is expected to promote the establishment of a regulatory framework for the supervision and monitoring of offshore oil and gas activities in view of anticipating difficulties in implementing the protocol and strengthening the technical knowledge of stakeholders.
This will be done through a range of outreach and advocacy activities about the protocol by states parties to the Abidjan Convention with a view of promoting its ratification. It will be conducted in close collaboration with UN Environment and IUCN.
This project of about USD 100,000 started this month and will last until 31 December 2018.
