Support efforts to adopt a global legally binding treaty against plastic pollution, present an initiative in the sub-region at the next session of the United Nations Environment Assembly scheduled for February in Nairobi ... these are the decisions taken by the third meeting of the Bureau of the Abidjan Convention cop12 held virtually this Monday, October 18 under the chairmanship of Côte d'Ivoire.

This treaty should allow to define a holistic approach in the fight against plastic pollution while harmonizing standards and definitions. It should also set clear objectives and action plans, propose common measures and methodologies for reporting and create a level playing field between all countries. To be effective and sustainable, it is important that the treaty establishes a stable policy framework for planning and investment, while at the same time devising a clear mechanism for access to financial and technological resources.
